What is Prediabetes?
Prediabetes occurs when blood sugars are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Importantly, an estimated 80% of those with prediabetes are unaware they have it, putting them at an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
Be sure to have your doctor routinely check your blood sugars in lab work if unsure.
What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin (hormone that controls amount of sugar in bloodstream) or when the body doesn’t effectively use insulin produced. Often, type 2 diabetes develops in adulthood; however, increasing numbers of children in high-risk populations are being diagnosed.
